Scientists from the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB) are interested in the structure and the internal composition of Mars. They think that the core of Mars is liquid, and to prove this, they will analyze the rotation of Mars. It may seem surprising, but observing the rotation of any body gives us information on the physical state of its core. It is in fact well known: a boiled egg doesn’t spin the same as a raw egg!

ROB scientists will also measure the gravitational field of Mars to learn more about the interior of the planet and especially its crust, its lithosphere and its core.
